Sven and Lorraine Eriksson are true Alaskan pioneers. Sven moved to Alaska in 1951 where he worked as an electrical engineer for Post Engineers, going on to become the Chief of Utilities for US Army Installations. Lorraine moved to Alaska in 1952 and worked for first for Yukon Equipment followed by Ed’s Electric. They were married in 1953, and spent their honeymoon at the old Mt. McKinley Hotel during December when outside temperatures were fifty below zero. The Eriksson’s operated Ed’s Electric from 1974-1997. They have spent their lives enjoying Alaska; flying, skiing, hunting and fishing with their two sons, Kurt and Chris.
The Sven E. and Lorraine Eriksson Alaska Scholarship will provide an award of up to $2,500 per year for up to 4 years (maximum of $10,000) to Alaskan students studying engineering or music at the University of Alaska.

The Neal O. Thorpe Scholarship is now closed.
The deadline for applications was Monday, May 27th, 2013 at 9:00pm.
The Neal O. Thorpe Memorial Scholarship supports Alaskan students who are the first in their immediate family to attend post-secondary school. Dr. Thorpe was a Trustee and Executive Director of the Murdock Charitable Trust and had deep ties to Alaska through his work to improve the quality of life for Alaskans. A humble and quiet man, Dr. Thorpe's hearty and infectious laugh could nonetheless often be heard and enjoyed from far away. Understated but wise, he always thought carefully and thoroughly before speaking. His dry sense of humor and keen wit displayed the apparent spontaneity that only careful thought can produce.
The Neal Thorpe Memorial Scholarship awards successful applicants $7,500 per year for up to five years. Qualified applicants must be an Alaska resident, be a graduate of a high school or equivalent program located in Alaska, must be the first in their immediate family to pursue a post-secondary degree and must be enrolled in one of the eligible universities listed in the guidelines below.

The Shelly Szepanski Memorial Flight Scholarship is now closed. The deadline for applications is May 25th, 2013 at 9:00 pm.
Shelly was born in Minneapolis on Feb. 4, 1967, and lived in Juneau, Anchorage, McGrath and Fairbanks for most of her 41 years. She was a wildlife biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game in Fairbanks. A true Alaskan adventuress, she loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and especially flying.
The Shelly Szepanski Memorial Flight Training Scholarship will provide an award of up to $5,000 to help qualified applicants earn their private or commercial/instrument ratings, including a float rating.

The Dr. Merritt C. Olson Scholarship is now closed.
The Olson Scholarship is given to a senior at Anchorage's West High School based on high academic success potential, leadership qualities and evidence of financial need.
The Dr. Merritt C. Olson Scholarship supports outstanding seniors from West Anchorage High School. The scholarship was established by Dr. Merritt Olson, a former West High teacher and education leader in Alaska. Born in South Dakota, Dr. Olson was an academic achiever; he was the valedictorian of his high school class and graduated summa cum laude from Northern State College. He went on to receive a doctorate in psychology from Rutgers University and spent a year as a Fullbright Scholar in Nigeria.
Dr. Olson moved to Alaska in 1953 where he taught math at Anchorage High School (which became West Anchorage High School in 1962) for 32 years. He also occasionally taught psychology classes at UAA and APU. He was also active on the board of the Anchorage Teacher's Retirement Board, was a member of the Alaska State Pension Investment Board, was appointed to the original Alaska Student/Scholarship/Loan Commission, and was president of Alaska NEA-Retired.
The Dr. Merritt C. Olson scholarship will provide an award of up to $2,500 per year for up to 4 years (maximum of $10,000) to a West High student with demonstrated financial need.

The Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage Scholarship is now closed.
The deadline for applications was April 1st, 2013 at 9:00 pm.
The Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage scholarship encourages scholastic performance,
cross-country skiing, and participation in community ski activities. The awards provides provides $1,500 toward educational expenses at a college or university to Alaska residents who are high school seniors or currently enrolled as college students.
Applicants must be members of the high school cross-country ski team during their junior and senior years and must have individual or family memberships in the NSAA.

The Tim Akers Memorial Scholarship Fund supports outstanding Alaskan students in the pursuit of technology education and/or training.
Tim Akers played an influential role in the development and production of the Prudhoe Bay Oilfield. Mr. Akers served as a mentor and role model for many young Alaskans with little or no experience working on the North Slope. His guidance helped to establish a solid core of exceptional Alaskan talent in the Prudhoe Bay workforce. Mr. Akers also served as President of the Chuloonawick Native Corporation.
The Tim Akers Memorial Scholarship will provide an award of $1,000.00. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.

The Sitka Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 to honor the memory of Tadao Sasayama, Founder of the Alaska Pulp Corporation.
Since 1954, the Alaska Pulp Corporation has been a part of the Wrangell and Sitka communities. Mr. Sasayama was the founder and the First Chairman of Alaska Pulp Corporation. He retired in 1971 and passed away three years later at the age of 78.
Scholarships are $20,000 total ($5,000 per year, renewable for four years) and are dependent upon students maintaining good standing and a full course load as prescribed by the post-secondary school.
Eligibility
Scholarships are available to Sitka High School seniors who plan to pursue post-secondary education. Selection will be based on outstanding academic achievement and or special talent. There will be three scholarships awarded per year from each school.

The Wrangell Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 to

The Shayna Marie Pritchard Scholarship is now closed. The deadline for applications was March 28th, 2013 at 9pm.
The Shayna Marie Pritchard scholarship was established by the Pritchard family in honor of their daughter and sister Shayna Marie Pritchard. Shayna was a kind-hearted, loving person who found beauty in all people and things. She went out of her way to please others and make sure everyone felt special. Her smile lit up everyone’s heart. Shayna graduated from Nikiski High School but didn’t feel that college was right choice for her. Shayna had a plan and followed it through, receiving a 300 hour Massage Therapy Certification.
Applicant must be a senior at Nikiski High School. Strong preference will be given to applicants pursuing a career in Massage Therapy, or a Trade/Vocational degree. Special notice will be given to applicants who show an exceptional ability to overcome life challenges. This is not an academic based or financial aid based scholarship. The applicant who best meets these requirements and most emulates the spirit of Shayna Marie Pritchard will be awarded this scholarship.

The Red Boucher Scholarship is now closed.
The Red Boucher Scholarship honors the late H.A. "Red" Boucher. It supports outstanding Alaskans pursuing careers in technology education and/or training.
Red Boucher is recognized at the state and national level as one of the pioneers of the Information Age and as an authority on the subject of computer-mediated communication. He had a long and distinguished career in public service, including holding the elected offices of lieutenant governor and state representative.

The Alaska Winter Olympians Scholarship is now closed.
The Alaska Winter Olympians Fund Scholarship Program was established to support promising Alaskan athletes. Scholarships will be awarded to Alaskan residents who show regional, national or international promise in Olympic winter sports and also have financial need. The Alaska Winter Olympians Fund Advisory Committee will review applications for grant awards once per year.
Qualified applicants must be Alaskan residents and US Citizens, must be competing in one of the winter Olympic disciplines and aim to pursue Olympic success, and must abide by the code of conduct outlined by his/her National Governing Body, if applicable. Preference will be given to athletes with demonstrated financial need.

This scholarship is not currently accepting applications.
The City of Hoonah created a scholarship years ago to demonstrate its commitment to arts education. Young people in the community compete annually for a full or partial scholarship to the Sitka Fine Arts Camp. Applications are due in the spring for that summer's camp.
The overriding criterion is the ability of the applicant to benefit from the Fine Arts Camp experience. Applicants must be residents of the City of Hoonah, of the proper age to attend camp, and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0. Worthiness for the scholarship is judged primarily on the basis of scholarship, reliability, and character. Financial need is a secondary consideration.
Applicants must fill out an application form that includes a short essay describing why they deserve to receive a scholarship.
The Pike Scholarship is available to graduating seniors Dimond High School, Anchorage. Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in dancing, acting, modeling, or veterinary medicine. Candidates are expected to have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and show the same sociability and love for life Melissa did.
In loving memory of Melissa, her family started a memorial scholarship to help students from Dimond High further their education. Melissa was dedicated to the Alaska Dance Theatre, loved animals, thought school was a social time, had a great smile and was good at math.
