Shelly was born in Minneapolis on Feb. 4, 1967, and lived in Juneau, Anchorage, McGrath and Fairbanks for most of her 41 years. She was a wildlife biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game in Fairbanks. A true Alaskan adventuress, she loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and especially flying.
The Shelly Szepanski Memorial Flight Training Scholarship will provide an award of up to $5,000 to help qualified applicants earn their private or commercial/instrument ratings, including a float rating.

Young athletes from 7 to 19 from the Central Kenai Peninsula participate in a variety of sports and cultural activities. This scholarship provides a maximum of $200 per 24-month period to individuals with limited resources and need financial assistance.

The Red Boucher Scholarship honors the late H.A. "Red" Boucher. It supports outstanding Alaskans pursuing careers in technology education and/or training.
Red Boucher is recognized at the state and national level as one of the pioneers of the Information Age and as an authority on the subject of computer-mediated communication. He had a long and distinguished career in public service, including holding the elected offices of lieutenant governor and state representative.

Pauline Reiter created this scholarship to honor the memory of her brother, Harry H. Hirshik. The scholarship benefits auto mechanic students because of Mr. Hirshik's love for cars and their mechanics. Applications are due in the fall.
Mr. Hirshik came to Alaska in 1965 and built a cabin in Eagle River. He worked at Fort Richardson as a light maintenance equipment mechanic until his retirement.
The City of Hoonah created a scholarship years ago to demonstrate its commitment to arts education. Young people in the community compete annually for a full or partial scholarship to the Sitka Fine Arts Camp. Applications are due in the spring for that summer's camp.
The overriding criterion is the ability of the applicant to benefit from the Fine Arts Camp experience. Applicants must be residents of the City of Hoonah, of the proper age to attend camp, and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0. Worthiness for the scholarship is judged primarily on the basis of scholarship, reliability, and character. Financial need is a secondary consideration.

The David E. Knox Memorial Nursing Fellowship supports outstanding candidates in the pursuit of registered nursing degrees and service to small Alaskan communities.
Successful applicants will embody the same nurturing compassion, detailed organization, high technical standards and devotion to health care for which David was known.

The Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage scholarship encourages scholastic performance,
cross-country skiing, and participation in community ski activities. The awards provides provides $1,500 toward educational expenses at a college or university to Alaska residents who are high school seniors or currently enrolled as college students.
Applicants must be members of the high school cross-country ski team during their junior and senior years and must have individual or family memberships in the NSAA.

The Olson Scholarship is given to a senior at Anchorage's West High School based on high academic success potential, leadership qualities and evidence of financial need.
