The Big Read

The Alaska Community Foundation demonstrated the power of community giving in 2007 by combining the muscle of Alaska donors with three national grants to create the Big Read.

More than 500 books were purchased to encourage Anchorage residents to read Fahrenheit 451 before gathering as a community to discuss the book. This "read-in" was just one of many initiatives in Alaska demonstrating the important role reading has in lifetime successes.
