Othello: Access to Art

Living in Alaska can mean access to fine arts is limited. Small companies often stage productions that demonstrate the artistic capabilities of Alaskans.

Cyrano's production of Shakespeare's Othello took on an Alaska twist with Alaska Native actors taking leading roles and mingling the characters of Shakespeare's traditional play with Alaska Native cultures.

Grants from The Alaska Community Foundation helped fund the production's road trip to smaller communities. For many in the rural audiences, Othello was the first live theater production they had seen so it was a truly special event.
